Konzertreise USA: Washington

Die Deutsche Botschaft Washington schreibt am 08. September 2010 auf ihrer Internetseite:
“The German arirang quintet captivated a large audience with their concert at the German Embassy on Friday, September 3, which was held as part of their coast-to-coast tour and US debut. For the Embassy concert, the quintet performed works by Franz Danzi, Charles Lefebvre, Jacques Ibert, and August Klughardt.
The arirang quintet – Monika Schneider on bassoon, Friedrich Haberstock on flute, Jörg Schneider on oboe, Steffen Dillner on clarinet, and Sebastian Schindler on horn – was formed in 2002. The idea for the group originated during an orchestra tour with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie to North and South Korea, and the group’s name, arirang, refers to a traditional Korean song.
The quintet is comprised of musicians from the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. Founded in 1974, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie belongs to the leading German orchestras and has fostered the organization of new chamber music ensembles. The orchestra is composed of over 100 of the best international musicians, chosen from some 25,000 students in the 24 German music conservatories. The orchestra’s high performance standards are ensured through rigid auditions.
After a successful debut in the Bochum Theatre, the arirang quintet was selected by Jeunesses Musicales Germany from among many chamber music ensembles to represent Germany in the “International Showcase of Young Musicians 2004” in Croatia. Having been awarded 2nd prize in the “International Chamber Music Competition Schwerin” in 2004, the arirang quintet was invited on a concert tour to Vienna, Brno and Prague (“Festival Prager Frühling”). In 2005 the quintet was awarded 2nd prize in the International Wind Quintet Competition “Henri Tomasi” in Marseille (France) as well as the 2nd prize in the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. The arirang quintet has been a member of Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland since 2008.
The quintet was enthusiastically received by the audience in attendance, many of whom took advantage of the opportunity to converse with the musicians at the post-concert reception.”
